The e-SISMOS project is within the framework of the STIC AmSud program. It provides a way to integrate research efforts and to foster the exchange of ideas, researchers, students, and research results and federate new collaborations between French and South American partners.

This project aims in particular to strengthen the scientific collaboration around the field of environmental monitoring based on wireless sensor networks. It is built around multidisciplinary scientific researchers in France, Argentina and Chile, working on energy-efficient strategies for WSN, energy harvesting techniques and signal processing for seismic events identification, respectively. The project focuses on the forecasting and the monitoring of volcanic eruptions, through the development of in-situ monitoring based on wireless sensor networks (WSN). The features large-scale (spatial) and long-term (temporal) of volcano monitoring involve to develop a monitoring system using together energy-harvesting techniques and energy-efficient techniques to sense, process and transmit useful data according to the models used to classify volcanic events.

It will permit to promote the use of in-situ WSN by governmental and local authorities in charge of Volcanic surveillance both in Chile and Argentina.
